Schuylkill Valley Superintendent Responds to Reported Bomb Threat

Alert issued: Thursday, October 3 2024 - 03:12 PM

Schuylkill Valley School District Superintendent Dr. Cathy Taschner released a statement Thursday morning regarding the investigation of a threat made against a school Wednesday afternoon:

“Dear Parents and Families, Last evening at approximately 8:46 p.m. an email was sent to Dr. O'Donnell, Mrs. Rivas and I informing that on the PM Elementary ride home a student told another student that he was going to make a bomb threat against the school. We did see the email later in the evening and Dr. O' Donnell made the appropriate police report to 911. As we understand it, State Police sent troopers to the home and were in touch with local law enforcement and with us and then informed by phone at 2 a.m. that they had spoken to the student and family and that there was not a threat to school.

We are extremely thankful for the report from another student on the bus, to their parent, and thankful for the email from the parent. While our administrative team is very proactive and we check our email often, there are times when we are often driving home from work, at school events, etc. and may not see an email right away. If you do experience an issue such as this or receive information after hours regarding a threat to our schools, please dial 911 immediately and provide whatever information you may have to the police. We appreciate the call or email as well, but urge everyone that if you hear or see something, to report it.

I want to thank Dr. O'Donnell for her actions last evening. We take these matters with all seriousness and continued through the evening and morning to make sure our building was safe for students. We ask that you continue to speak with your children about the serious nature of these comments and the serious consequences that accompany them. We want all students and staff to feel safe and secure in our schools and appreciate your continued support to that effort. Sincerely, Dr. Cathy L. Taschner Superintendent of Schools”
