Via Kutztown Police Department: Suspected Rabid Skunk reported in the area of Carriage Point Estates, Kutztown, PA
This morning, the Kutztown Police were dispatched to a suspected rabid skunk in Carriage Point Estates (map). We were unable to locate the skunk but were told it went after a dog and a person.
For Your Safety:
- Do not approach, feed, or attempt to capture the animal.
- Keep children away.
- Keep pets indoors or under close supervision and ensure rabies vaccinations are current.
- Avoid contact with any wild animal exhibiting unusual behavior, including aggression, staggering, disorientation, paralysis, or a lack of fear of people.
If You Have Contact with the Animal:
- If you or your pet are bitten, scratched, or exposed to saliva from the animal, immediately wash the affected area with soap and water.
- Seek medical attention or veterinary care as soon as possible.
