City of Reading Opens Warming and Charging Stations in Response to Power Outage

In response to a lengthy electric outage impacting an area in the south side of the city, the City of Reading is making warming and charging stations available for affected residents. Residents in need of a warm space and the ability to charge cell phones may visit the following locations:

  • 3rd and Spruce Recreation Center 320 S. 3rd Street
  • 10th and Penn Elementary School 955 Penn Street
  • Olivet’s Boys & Girls Club 330 S. 19th Street

These locations will open today at 1:00 PM. Residents utilizing these facilities are encouraged to bring their own phone chargers and cords, as well as a power strip if available. Please note that no sleeping or food services are being offered at these locations.

According to current information provided by Met-Ed personnel, crews have been working to address a complex issue, and power restoration is anticipated by 8:00 PM this evening.
