Accident on 422 west in Cumru Township near the Schuylkill River Bridge (just before Lancaster Ave), reported to be a vehicle that struck the median and launched off the highway bridge and landed down near the river, initially described as on fire.
Update: Firefighters first on-scene say the vehicle is fully involved. Requesting city fire units to South 9th Street to assist. Vehicle went an estimated 200 feet down the embankment into the tree line before stopping. Patient located with extensive injuries.
Bridge Operations: After extinguishing the fire, firefighters lowered a stokes basket from the bridge down to the vehicle to lift the driver up for medical attention. The driver was later transported to the hospital, condition unknown. A short time later, a tow company arrived and lifted what appeared to be a large SUV up from the woods back onto the highway.
