The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for southeastern Berks County, effective until 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
As of 6:21 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rainfall across the area. Between one and two inches of rain have already fallen, with flash flooding either ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
The warning includes the potential for flooding in small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses, and other low-lying or poorly drained locations. Areas that may be affected include Reading, Wyomissing, Birdsboro, Sinking Spring, Laureldale, Wernersville, Robesonia, Leesport, Elverson, New Morgan, Spring Ridge, and Shillington.
Residents are urged not to drive through flooded roadways. Floodwaters can be deeper than they appear, and most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Use caution and remain alert to changing weather conditions.
