On Saturday, October 19th, the Wyomissing Public Library will sponsor a bus trip to New York City to visit the Tenement Museum on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. There are two private group tours scheduled for those who attend: Tenement Women will explore the challenges and changes faced by Jewish immigrant mothers in 1902; Under One Roof looks at an Italian family and a Jewish family who were neighbors in the early part of the 20th Century.
The Museum was founded by Wyomissing native and historian Ruth Abram in 1988, and encompasses 2 buildings: 97 and 103 Orchard Street; after the tour, participants will have the opportunity to explore the Lower East Side on their own before the bus departs for Wyomissing. The bus will leave Wyomissing at 7:30 AM and will leave the Tenement Museum at 6 PM to return home. Free parking for the day will be available at the Wyomissing Pool, 901 Evans Avenue.
The cost of the round trip and admission to the Museum is $130; WPL Association Members will save $10 and pay $120.
Meals are on your own; for suggestions on where to eat and what to do in your free time, visit www.tenement.org/neighborhood-guide.
